PTSD & Trauma Therapy in Whitby, Ontario

Gentle, body-based trauma therapy helping adults find safety, balance, and emotional freedom.

You may look like you’re managing on the outside, showing up for work, taking care of responsibilities, holding everything together.
But inside, it’s like your body is still bracing for impact.

Maybe you’ve tried to move on from what happened. You’ve told yourself to “just get over it.” Yet something inside still feels unsettled, a tight chest, racing heart, restless mind, or a sense that the world isn’t quite safe.

You’re not broken. Your body and mind have simply been doing their best to protect you.

Healing doesn’t mean reliving the past. It means finding safety again, inside yourself and in the world around you.

If you’re ready to stop living in survival mode and start feeling safe within yourself again, trauma therapy at Intentional Growth Path can help.

Trauma isn’t defined by the event itself; it’s what happens inside you as a result.
It can come from a single incident, years of ongoing stress, or experiences that left you feeling helpless or alone.

When you’ve been through something too overwhelming, your nervous system can get stuck in a state of survival, constantly scanning for danger, even long after the threat has passed.

That’s why trauma can show up in everyday life as:

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

  • Trouble relaxing or “shutting off”

  • Irritability or sudden emotional shifts

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or your body

  • Memories or images that pop up unexpectedly

  • Sleep disturbances or unexplained physical tension

  • Avoiding certain places, people, or conversations

These are not personal flaws, they’re your system’s way of saying, “I’ve been through too much.”

When to Seek Professional Help

Consider seeking professional trauma support when memories, emotions, or reactions from past experiences start affecting your daily life, sleep, or relationships, or when coping alone feels overwhelming. A trained therapist can help you process safely, build resilience, and reclaim a sense of safety and balance.

Common Thoughts That Might Be Holding You Back

A man appears distressed, holding his head with his hand, with multiple lines of text in speech bubbles expressing concern and hopelessness.

If any of these ring true, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out alone either. Therapy can provide a safe, steady space to explore what’s happening at your pace.

How Trauma Therapy Helps

Trauma therapy is about more than “processing the past.” It’s about reclaiming your sense of safety, control, and connection.

  • Feel calmer and more grounded in your body

  • React less to old triggers

  • Strengthen emotional regulation and resilience

  • Reconnect with parts of yourself that once felt lost

  • Develop self-compassion instead of self-blame

  • Experience healthier relationships and trust again

Healing from trauma isn’t a straight line, but it is possible. With the right support, your nervous system can learn that it’s safe to relax, rest, and live fully again.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy

At Intentional Growth Path Psychotherapy, I offer a trauma-informed, safety-first approach that gently honors your pace and your story.

I integrate several approaches, depending on your needs:

  • Somatic Experiencing to help your body release stored survival energy

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) to build compassion for the different “parts” of you

  • Narrative Therapy to help you reclaim meaning and agency in your story

  • Prolonged Exposure & CPT for clients ready to transform persistent trauma symptoms

  • Mindfulness-Based Strategies to increase calm, awareness, and presence

Together, we focus on regulation before exploration, meaning we prioritize helping your nervous system feel safe before touching painful memories.

Therapy with me is collaborative and relational. I believe healing happens in connection, not isolation. My role isn’t to “fix” you, but to help you reconnect with your own capacity to heal.

Sessions are available in-person in Whitby, Ontario, or virtually across Ontario.

Together, we can create a space where you feel supported enough to finally exhale; and take the next step forward.
