In-home therapy in Whitby and across Durham Region
Therapy where you already feel at ease. I come to your home for individual, couples or family sessions, so you can skip the commute, the waiting room and the logistics.
Book a free 30-minute consultationWhat in-home therapy is
It's the same psychotherapy you'd receive in an office, held in a private room in your home. I'm Chelsea Smith, a Registered Psychotherapist, and I draw on CBT, ACT, EFT and trauma-informed approaches, adapted to what you need.
For many people, being in a familiar space makes it easier to relax and open up. It also lets us work with the real setting of your life, whether that's family routines, a shared home or the stress of getting out the door.
Who it tends to suit
- New parents or families with young children who can't easily leave the house
- Anyone who finds travelling to appointments stressful, tiring or hard to fit in
- People who feel more comfortable in familiar surroundings than in an office
- Couples and families who want to meet together in one place without coordinating travel
- Clients with mobility, transportation or scheduling challenges
How it works
Free consultation
We talk for 30 minutes about what you'd like to work on, where you live, and whether in-home sessions are a good fit.
Set up a private space
You choose a quiet room where you can talk without being overheard or interrupted. We'll go over the practical details together.
Meet at home
I arrive at your scheduled time, and sessions run the same length as office appointments.
Switch whenever you like
You can move between in-home, my Whitby office, walk-and-talk and virtual sessions as your needs change.
Common questions
How do you protect my privacy at home?
Everything you share stays confidential, as it does in every session. The practical side is on us to arrange: a closed door, a quiet room, and ideally no one else listening in. If privacy isn't possible on a given day, we can reschedule or meet at my office or online instead.
What do I need to prepare?
A private, quiet space with a comfortable place to sit is all you need. If you have children or pets at home, it helps to arrange for them to be elsewhere or occupied during the session, unless a family session is the plan.
Which areas do you travel to?
I'm based in Whitby and offer in-home sessions across Durham Region, including Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering and Bowmanville. We'll confirm your location and availability during your consultation.
Can couples and families meet at home?
Yes. In-home sessions are available for individuals, couples and families, and many families find it easier to attend together without travelling.
Is in-home therapy right for me if I'm in crisis?
Not as a first step. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline, available across Canada) or go to your nearest emergency department. If a home setting isn't safe or private for therapy, I'll suggest meeting at my office or online instead.
